In a solo episode, Keith shares some ideas on a few Proverbs. they represent contrast between wisdom and foolishness, managing household and business correctly, and living life rightly.

In each case, Keith compares his literal notes to the new American Standard Bible, and makes his own remarks and observations.

Proverbs 14:1

Prosperity, in the household

The contrast in verse one is in the way of advantages in building a comfortable household. Across cultures women are the ones who have the role of building a home, and this proverb compares the wisdom in building to the silliness of plucking it apart bit by bit.

Fear of the Lord, uprightness

Generally speaking, as we walk down the road of life, it’s a wise idea to stay on that well-traveled path. It demonstrates our fear and respect of the Lord. To depart from it, or to deviate from it also means we are devious. We trust in our own path, rather than the one that God has set.

Speech, its effects

Everyone has a word to say, from the wise person to the foolish person. When speaking the words of truth and wisdom, those words can become a shelter and protection for us. The contrast is in the words of a perverse or foolish person. There words are a rod of arrogance. Arad is used for discipline, and particularly in getting a beating. Foolish and arrogant words will return on that person’s back.

Prosperity, in business

When a business is run well, the ideal outcome is some degree of gaining wealth
It may be professional to maintain a clean work atmosphere, but you can go too far with that. Removing the livestock simply to keep the barns clean is misguided. How can you earn money if you remove the cattle from it?
Oxen are messy, and it’s an ongoing chore to keep up with cleaning after them. If the focus is on caring for the oxen, and not the barn, the farmer becomes much more successful.

While times and customs may constantly change, people and their emotions stay the same. A close look at adages like these, should be a constant reminder of keeping our attitudes straight.
