As a follow-up under the theme of our previous installment, Keith is joined by a longtime friend. In the past, Tony Rangel has been a guest. As a person of color and mixed-race, today he shares some of his experiences and thoughts on discrimination. It may be true that everyone has a bias, but it isn’t so deeply grained that it can’t be overcome and reconciled.

Tony points out times where he has experienced the race issue on both sides and points out that bias based on economic class is just as real. Though the popular claim is that racism is the normal state and inescapable, Tony points out it is more likely an unconscious reaction. Once an offense is pointed out, the alleged racist can, and often reconciles to set the matter straight.

There is only one human race, as Tony points out in Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (NASB) It’s the gospel that has the power to unite the most diverse of people. Diversity is seen as a great strength in America. The real show of strength happens when diverse people come together to unite.

The gospel unifies for a purpose that’s bigger than ourselves, bigger than a nation, and has eternal consequence.
