our featured today takes us back to the time of old-time radio. This is a documentary produced by our very own government that taught teenagers some important lessons about freedom of speech.
It features a 17-year-old named Tommy, who is coming to grips over serving his country. Since his parents were involved in the first world war, he seeks their advice and input on what he should do. In short, he was facing an American struggle.
To help him keep the light of democracy burning, Tommy learns lessons in his schoolroom. But is it still just an academic topic to him? On his way home our young hero passes by the church, and a community gathering. He tries to make sense of the issues of freedom of religion, as well as freedom of speech. Dusty old words like those he’s learned from Thomas Jefferson finally take shape in a big ending for Tommy. He understands how people can have a diversity of beliefs and still be free to express them.
