All who accept the gospel by faith are justified before the Father.

Romans 3:21–4:3

Paul acknowledged that while all have sinned and are separated from God, God provides a path to redemption and restoration through Jesus.

Introduction

The major part of the beginning of Romans focused on the theme: everyone falls short when it comes to God’s righteousness.

In Romans 3, Paul shifted to the solution to this problem. Only through faith in Jesus can a person find God’s grace to cover shortcomings.

Through Faith
(Rom. 3:21-24)

  • righteousness of God is to be obtained.
  • faith in Jesus is required.

Who needs salvation? All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Grace: How does it counter the reality of verse 23?

  • A sin debt is still owed
  • Paid, imputed, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

In Jesus
(Rom. 3:25-26)

  • imputation is how Jesus’ sacrifice redeem those who believe in Him.
  • How would you explain Jesus’ atoning sacrifice for our sins to a person who is not a believer?

    For All People
    (Rom. 3:27-31)

    • there is no place for boasting about personal accomplishments
    • the gift of salvation is freely given.
    • a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

    Where is boasting?

    None are righteous.

    • what kind of law? ? Works or faith.
    • is God the God of Jews only? No.
    • Do we nullify the law through faith? No.

    Including Abraham
    (Rom. 4:1-3)

    • what justified Abraham in the eyes of God.
    • How does the faith of Abraham compare to the faith required of believers today?

    Conclusion

    define salvation.
    Through Faith, In Jesus, For All People.

    Commit to living a life that reflects God’s gracious gift and be faithful to share it with others through words and deeds.
