A large crowd had come to gawk at the spectacle of the risen Lazarus, as well as Jesus. They lay branches in the road, like rolling out a red carpet. They shouted, hosanna. lord save us please, Recognizing Jesus as coming in the name of the lord. being sent by God. They put it together that he was the earthly king of Israel.
Prophecy is fulfilled when Jesus found a young donkey and wrote it into town. Jesus didn’t stop them from shouting hosanna, or send them away.
The full quotation from Zechariah is shared here almost verbatim. In addition to the previous quotations that were taken from Psalms 118:20 and following verses it was very clear Jesus is now being proclaimed as Messiah. It is time had come, and was at hand
While the incoming foreigners and the resident Jews seem to have recognized this fact, Jesus disciples seemed clueless. However, they would remember this account as well as others. important things sometimes seem to slip by unnoticed, but when time allows reflection, they are easily recalled.
The local Jews who had witnessed Lazarus being raised from the dead testified to the newcomers who had all the more reason to believe Jesus was their Messiah. Not everyone was so thrilled. The religious leaders tried to get people to stop witnessing because it was ruining their control they had over the people.
The world hates truth, and will plot murder to stop it. When confronted with Jesus, we all have the same choice do we flock to him and believe like the Jewish masses? Or do we believe like the Pharisees, and plot against him?
