Please note: this is only a first and quick glance at this topic. For a true and depth dive into the topic, a study of false teachers and how they operate will be needed. Fortunately, other podcasters in the Christian podcast community are covering the book of Jude, which does exactly that. Please give them a listen. you might also search YouTube for “snatch them from the flames”. It’s a seminar provided by Andrew Rappaport and striving for eternity ministries.
For now, here are the notes I used in recording this episode.
Who is heretical, and to what extent should we fellowship or break fellowship?
Heretical: To be at odds, or contrary to beliefs.
Luke 9:49-50
Heresy is to have a departure from orthodoxy (right teaching).
Matthew 12:30; Luke 11:23
Heresy involves denial or doubt of core Christian beliefs. It doesn’t mean the gospel can’t spread, even if the false teacher has wrong motives.
Philippians 1:15-18
It’s different from a schism, a breach of faith.
Mark 9:41
It’s different from apostasy, total abandonment of faith.
1 Corinthians 12:3
