Here are my original notes for this-Quest episode.

early church leader in a black robe and hat.

Taking a look at the topics of original sin, God’s requirement for perfection, and doing right in your own eyes.

Based on a scan through the references in Naves Topical dictionary, an open sourcebook. Nave’s is a respected resource on bible topics.

Using Adam as a starting point.

Why was man created?

Genesis 1:26-28 God makes mankind and gives him authority to rule the earth.
Genesis 2:7 Man was formed, and God’s breath of life was breathed into him.
1 Corinthians 15:45 The 1st Adam is the beginning of all we know in the physical realm. The 2nd Adam, or Jesus, is the beginning of the spiritual kingdom.
1 Timothy 2:13 Significance of Adam being created first, then Eve.

Sin, what happened?

Ge

nesis 3 Eve is tempted, despite her efforts in setting extra barriers to not eat the fruit. She didn’t fall dead on the spot, so Adam, being with her, also ate. One thing did happen in the disobedience, their eyes were open, and they recognized they were naked. God puts them on the spot, the blame game starts, and God rightly applies judgment on all involved. He also provides a way to become reconciled, but down the road when Jesus makes his appearance in the world.

Job knew the reality and truth of where sin came from. It’s an evil and embarrassing nature to God.

Jo

b 31:33 “Have I covered my transgressions like Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom,

So did the prophets Isaiah and Hosea.

Isa

iah 43:27 “Your first forefather sinned, and your spokesmen have transgressed against Me.
Hosea 6:7 But like Adam, they have transgressed the covenant; There they have dealt treacherously against Me.

Writers of the New Testament would agree, and go as far as to make a comparison between Adam and Jesus.

Ro

mans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
1 Timothy 2:14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

Doing right in your own eyes. I’m doing OK, right?

Moses warns that people need to do right by God, not in their own eyes.

Deuteronomy 12:8 “You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes;

The first major downfall of the nation of Israel in the promised land was over disregarding god, and measuring what’s right in their own eyes. Judges 17:6 and Judges 21:25 both refer to this, and it is always mentioned along with the record of somebody doing something wrong.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel.
Proverbs 21:2 Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts.

All I can add to that is to keep seeking the truth. Keep learning about God by searching his authoritative book about him, the bible.
