Remember (Acts 3:22-26)

the role of prophets in this passage.

22 “Moses said:
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.
You must listen to everything he tells you.
23 And everyone who does not listen to that prophet
will be completely cut off from the people.
24 In addition, all the prophets who have spoken,
from Samuel and those after him, have also foretold these days.
25 You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant
that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham, And all t
he families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring.
26 God raised up his servant and sent him
first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways.”

Application Point:

point people to the Bible when telling others about Jesus.

Discuss:

what prophets were mentioned, as well as their relationship with the Messiah?
Moses and Samuel were named specifically,
but Peter was clear that all the Old Testament prophets were focused on the coming Messiah-Jesus.

Ask:

Share:

Again, he was addressing a Jewish audience,
so the words of the prophets would have carried a lot of weight.
Plus, showing the connection between the prophets and the Messiah rooted his message in Scripture,
which is always important when you’re sharing your faith.

CHALLENGE

Summarize:

Review these points from Apply the Text on page 45 of the Personal Study Guide:

Apply:

Encourage the group to use their sticky notes to create individual plans for sharing Christ as noted in the second set of questions on page 45 of the PSG.
Suggest that they write names on individual notes and to place those notes where they will see them and pray for them.

Ask:

Bless:

Send the group out with a prayer that they will be attuned to their opportunities to share Christ
and that they would be bold when given the chance to witness.

AFTER THE SESSION

During the week, contact each person in the group with an individual text or email. Let them know that you are praying for them as they discern opportunities to share Christ with someone in their sphere of influence. Also, encourage them to continue working on the memory verse for this session, Acts 3:19.

Music

Share the lyrics of
“Spirit of the Living God” (Baptist Hymnal 2008, 330).
Draw attention to the verbs used in the chorus: “Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me.” Ask: Why are these things necessary for the Spirit to move in our lives?
What holds us back from letting Him do His work?
Challenge adults to look for the Spirit’s work in today’s session and to consider how they can apply the passage to their lives each day.
Sing the song as an opening prayer for the Bible study.
