TRANSITION:

In today’s study
we will see Jeremiah delivering yet another message of warning from God
to the king and the people.

The king responded by destroying the scroll containing God’s message.

EXPLORE THE TEXT

CONTEXT:

set the stage for the events described in Jeremiah 36.
Share that many biblical scholars believe these events happened around 605 BC,
the year that Babylon’s Nebuchadnezzar first conquered Jerusalem.

TRANSITION:

On the surface, Jehoiakim owed his reign to King Nebuchadnezzar.
But while the Babylonian ruler may have been the human agent in placing Jehoiakim on the throne,
God was behind the scenes working out His plans and purposes.

Yet, Jehoiakim never acknowledged God,
and his stubborn refusal to accept God’s words would lead
to his eventual downfall.
