Session 8 | Jeremiah 31:23-34

BLESSINGS PROMISED (JER. 31:23-26)

the blessings God promised to His people.

Note that God was speaking to Jeremiah through a dream in these verses.

23 This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says:
“When I restore their fortunes they will once again speak
this word in the land of Judah and in its cities:
‘May the LORD bless you, righteous settlement, holy mountain.’”

24 “Judah and all its cities will live in it together—
also farmers and those who move with the flocks—
25 for I satisfy the thirsty person and feed all those who are weak.”

26 At this I awoke and looked around. My sleep had been most pleasant to me.

DISCUSS:

EXPLAIN:

God promised that Judah and its people would be restored
to the flourishing land it once was.
God’s judgment against His people’s disobedience had been harsh,
and they were still experiencing the consequences of their rebellion.

Yet, verse 26 tells us that Jeremiah was pleased with God’s promises.

DISCUSS:

TRANSITION:

Jeremiah had spent so much of his ministry
warning the people about God’s judgment against them.
To make matters worse, they never really accepted his messages.
Now, instead of bad news, Jeremiah had reason for hope.
God’s promise that Judah would experience blessing again brought God’s prophet a new sense of peace and pleasure.
