TRANSITION:

In today’s study,
God’s people were living as captives in Babylon.
Yet God reminded them that they could trust Him in all circumstances.

As we study today’s verses,
think about the situations you are facing right now,
especially the ones that seem too big for you to handle.

Reflect on how trusting God in your circumstances
could make a difference in your life and in the lives of those around you.

EXPLORE THE TEXT

CONTEXT:

Use Understand the Context (p. 61)
explain the context of chapters 27–28,
especially Jeremiah’s yoke.

explain that today’s passage is part of a letter Jeremiah sent
from Jerusalem to exiles that Nebuchadnezzar had deported from Jerusalem
to Babylon.

EXPLAIN:

highlight the timing of events related to Jeremiah’s letter.
Share that most scholars believe Jeremiah sent his letter
soon after Zedekiah began his reign in 597 BC.
So, by that time, the Babylonians had taken two groups of Jews into exile,
one in 605 BC and another shortly before Jeremiah wrote his letter around 597 BC.
