LISTEN (JER. 7:1-2)

where and how God told Jeremiah to deliver His message.

1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
2 “Stand in the gate of the house of the LORD and there call out this word:
‘Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah
who enter through these gates to worship the LORD.’”

EXAMINE:

• What is the difference between simply hearing a person and listening to a person? (p. 31)
• What did Jeremiah mean by “worship”?

DISCUSS:

• What is the significance of God’s telling Jeremiah
  to deliver this message to the people
  as they were entering the gates of the temple to worship? (p. 31).

Emphasize

People at the temple gates would have been coming to worship.
God understood that the people considered themselves religious and thought they were doing all the right things.

Highlight

the fact that Jeremiah’s message painted a much different picture
of the people’s spirituality.

TRANSITION:

Jeremiah delivered God’s message for all the people to hear.
It was not meant to be just a casual hearing,
but careful listening followed by godly actions.
