WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS (JOHN 7:20-24)

20 “You have a demon!” the crowd responded.
“Who is trying to kill you?”

23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses won’t be broken,
are you angry at me because I made a man entirely well on the Sabbath?

24 Stop judging according to outward appearances;
rather judge according to righteous judgment.”

   Lead the group in considering
   what constituted hypocrisy.

   Examples

   • David’s initial response to Nathan’s story in 2 Sam. 12;
   • the Unforgiving Debtor in Matt. 18;
   • and Jesus’s teaching on the splinter in your brother’s eye from Matt. 7)

   DISCUSS:

   Jesus was sent by the Father so we could know the Father. (p. 76)

   Ask:

   • What makes seeing our own hypocrisy difficult? (p. 79)

   Assert that we have been sent to make Jesus known
   so the world can see the true light of Jesus
   through us.

   TRANSITION:

   Jesus’s amazing teaching and bold, public stand
   began to convince some that He might be the Messiah.
   But they still had questions and doubts to overcome.
