40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John and followed him.

41 He first found his own brother Simon and told him,
“We have found the Messiah”
(which is translated “the Christ”),

42 and he brought Simon to Jesus.
When Jesus saw him, he said,
“You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas”
(which is translated “Peter”).

STUDY:

Title: “Messiah”
Review the meaning of the title

• The Hebrew term Messiah was translated as the Christ in Greek.
• Jews of the first century longed for the Messiah. <>li>They were looking for someone to destroy their enemies—the Romans—
• and to restore David’s kingdom.

DISCUSS:

Andrew did not merely tell his brother, Simon, about Jesus.
he introduced Simon to Jesus.

Ask:

• What challenges do we face when telling family members about Jesus?
• How can Andrew’s actions serve as a model for us? (p. 23)

TRANSITION:

So far, we’ve seen John the Baptist and Andrew witness to Jesus.
But John also highlighted the testimony of Philip.
