Session 9 2 Kings 7:1-15
what the four men decided to do about the supplies they had found.
9 Then they said to each other,
“We’re not doing what is right. Today is a day of good news.
If we are silent and wait until morning light,
our punishment will catch up with us.
So let’s go tell the king’s household.”
10 The diseased men came and called to the city’s gatekeepers and told them,
“We went to the Aramean camp and no one was there —
no human sounds. There was nothing but tethered horses and donkeys,
and the tents were intact.”
11 The gatekeepers called out, and the news was reported to the king’s household.
The four men’s first thoughts were to gather the food and supplies for themselves (v. 8).
No wonder that was their first decision, because everyone was desperate and fending for themselves.
Point out that in verses 10-11,
we see the four men sharing the good news of the food and supplies with the city gatekeepers,
who passed it on to the king.
These men who were social outcasts might have felt justified
in keeping the food and supplies for themselves.
Finding the Arameans’ supplies literally saved their lives.
But they made the sacrificial choice to share.
