Session 6 1 Kings 18:25-39

RESPONSE (1 KINGS 18:36-39)

listen for God’s response to Elijah’s sacrifice.

36 At the time for offering the evening sacrifice, the prophet Elijah approached the altar and said,
“LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel,
today let it be known that you are God in Israel and I am your servant,
and that at your word I have done all these things.
37 Answer me, LORD! Answer me so that this people will know
that you, the LORD, are God and that you have turned their hearts back.”

38 Then the LORD’s fire fell and consumed the burnt offering,
the wood, the stones, and the dust,
and it licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 When all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said,
“The LORD, he is God! The LORD, he is God!”

SUMMARIZE AND CHALLENGE

Review:

Evaluate:

Call for a volunteer to read aloud the Summary Statements under Apply the Text (p. 56). Invite the group to consider how to live out these statements as believers. Ask: What is one action that could be taken related to each statement?

Challenge:

Lead the group to complete the second question set on page 56. List their responses on the board. Encourage them to reflect on their response each day as they complete each Daily Exploration.

Pray:

Close in prayer, thanking God for the ways He shows Himself worthy of our worship. Pray that we will give Him first place in our worship and our lives.

AFTER THE SESSION

Reinforce the study prayerfully remembering that God answers our humble prayers. Share with the group an answered prayer in your own life, by way of a follow-up email.
